Soon, the Community Cancer Center will be making its debut with a new, state- of -the -art facility. We, here at the CCC, have been providing radiation oncology services to the community for over 25 years and now after much planning, fundraising and with the dedication of many, we are ready to bear the fruit of our labors. Those things which have made our center so successful for all these years have not changed, but our location, equipment and building will be. The Center, which is owned by the community, will be located on Mercy’s campus. This will benefit our patients tremendously by providing them with two new and very important benefits: 1) easy access between the Community Cancer Center and the hospital and 2) it will house both radiation oncology and medical oncology within one building. Our goal, by offering a “comprehensive” cancer center on the hospital campus, is to provide patients with not only the best care, but also the most convenient.
So, where are we now in this huge project that we have under taken? Well, the planning and design of the building is nearly complete. Here, in 3-D you can view your future cancer center. The new Elekta Synergy, Radiation Therapy Treatment machine has been purchased (and the Therapists are excited). We will be moving our Impac system to the new MOSAIC platform and we are now in the final stages of “going paperless”; meaning, we will be on a fully electronic filing system.
As for the actual construction, phase one is done. The site prep is complete, the utility lines are laid and we are ready for the foundation. Within the next few weeks requests to contractors for bids will go out and upon that final selection the foundation work will begin. It is estimated that the new Community Cancer Center will open its doors when the project is completed in approximately one year from now.
How are we paying for all of this? Well, our capital campaign has been a huge success thus far. The campaign goal, including grants is $3,500,000 of which we have successfully raised $2,348,114. As you can see we are right on track with our goal and also have written grants which are still pending. Our applauds to the campaign committee for all of their hard work and great success.
